How can I disable the "Unknown Publisher" security warning?
When I execute installers that are not digitally signed I get a security
warning asking me whether I really want to execute this file.

This happens only with installers and this only started to happen after I've
installed WinXP SP2.

Does somebody know how to disable this warning, so that WinXP starts the
installer automatically, without asking me first?

I've made a screenshot of this security warning, you can take a look at it
here:

it's in german, cause my system is german, I hope you get it, I've described
what it says above

If you take 5 seconds from your busy day and search the KB at Microsoft, you
will find the way.

I've been searching google and the MS k. database for 3 hours, asked this
question in several forums, and still no luck. if you are so experienced,
then give me the link to a solution.

btw, if you are hinting at DEP, I've disabled it already two days ago by
setting the "/execute" flag in my boot.ini, but it didn't stop the warnings,
nor did it for other people I've spoken with

Start>settings>control panel>system. Select Hardware>Driver Signing. Check
ignore.
Sometimes you simply have to know what to search for. Good luck.

Re: How can I disable the "Unknown Publisher" security warning?
no, the setting you mean only controls the installation of hardware DRIVERS
that are not digitally signed and has no impact on the execution of normal
programmes.

But I am talking about the warning that appears when trying to install
normal programmes, look at the screenshot I posted in my first post, the
security warning looks totally different from the
"driver-not-digitally-signed" warning.

Re: How can I disable the "Unknown Publisher" security warning?
Hi Richard,

Using a software restriction policy, it's also possible to control who can
make a trust decision about an unknown publisher-a publisher that's not
explicitly trusted or distrusted. Software restriction policies can be set
up to allow only local administrators, or domain administrators, to decide
which publishers to trust, and to prevent users from making those decisions.

Re: How can I disable the "Unknown Publisher" security warning?
Yes, I know about the software restriction policy and since I am the
administrator of my system I have full rights, so of course I am allowed to
execute any installer launched on my system, the problem are not the
permissions, the problem is the security notification, I want windows to stop
asking me whether I want to execute an unsigned file. It should execute them
in any case, without any security warning, just as it did before SP2.

Re: How can I disable the "Unknown Publisher" security warning?
I have the exact same problem, seen your posts a few times while googling :P

We have a dos environment, aka files servers and tons of dos batch files.
With every execution the XP client is spamming a security warning ... for no
reason at all.

So how do i trust/sign files/batch files/network drives etc.

Anyone have a SP2 security warning blokker tool? :P

To disable the warning start the Group Policy Editor (Start > Run, type
-gpedit.msc- and press OK) and go to:

-User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components >
Attachment Manager- then set -Inclusion list for low file types- to
Enabled and enter the file types you don't want to be warned about in
the box (for example: -.htm;.exe-).

Hmm...didn't work for me, I even rebooted my computer.

I've been searching all over for a fix to this. I did find one
temporary solution, but it sucks:
