I'm new to this forum & hope someone can help with my problem.
I'm rumming an e-macines p.c. with Windows Xp home. I have an HP1210 all in one printer connected to the p.c by a USB cable. There are 3 accounts set up, 1 administrator account & 2 limited accounts (for me & the wife). My problem - I can only print when logged on using the administrator account. When I try to print using either my own or the wifes limited account, nothing prints. No error messages appear on the screen & the lights on the printer do not flash or anything.
I read an article on the HP website (go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...dlc=en&lang=en) Step 2 says "In Windows 2000 and XP, you must have Administrator or Power User level access to the computer to use the all-in-one drivers to print. To change permissions levels, do one of the following..."
I followed the instructions to change the change the security level of all of the files in the WinNT\System32 folder to give everyone access but I still can't print using a user account.
I found some more info regarding file sharing on http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xpperm/xpPerm1.htm & followed these instructions about setting up file sharing permissions. The system32 folder is now a "shared" folder, supposedly giving everyone who uses the computer full control, but the printer is still not playing.
Any help regarding a solution for this would be greatly appreciated. I know it seems like a trivial problem but it is a pain logging out & back in just to print something & I dont like the idea of using the admininistrator account for ANYTHING other than installing software etc.
Questions:
Have I found the correct folder to apply the shared permissions to? (The system32 folder contains references to hp drivers, but are they the right ones for the printer I have, as I dont know exactly what they are called I have no idea where to look for them)
Is there another driver that would work for this printer?
Why have HP marketed a product that cannot easily be used without having to mess around like this ("In Windows 2000 and XP, you must have Administrator or Power User level access to the computer to use the all-in-one drivers to print")?
Is what I'm trying to do here possible? (Print from a limited account in XP home using this printer)

Hello again
Sorry to keep banging on about this... but I've found an error message in the event viewer after the printer fails to print. Any help greatly appreciated.
