Re: Windows Explorer virus???
Do these entries show up in the right pane if you click on the drive in
the left pane (in other words are in the root directory)? If yes, what
data are in the 'Type', 'Size', 'Created', 'Modified', 'Accessed', and
'Attributes' column for the entry. Is the icon greyed out? I assume you
have 'display hidden files' enabled.
Is the D: drive a physical drive or a partition?
Is the file system NTFS, and is that the only file system?
Does the problem go away for a time when you restart the system?
Does the problem occur if you boot up, then don't use the system for a
period equal to the time it usually takes for the problem to appear, or
have the system do a couple of long, but simple proceedures that don't have
many variables (scan the drives for error, defrag the drives, and scan the
drives for virus infections)?
The above information may help the diagnosis, but your problem as described
seems like a question for the Windows XP operating system newsgroup and for
the Microsoft knowledge base section that deals with Windows XP.

while (I can't figure out what triggers it) Windows Explorer will have
additional objects (not directories) attached to the bottom of the directory
tree in the left window at which point I cannot open my d drive. I am
running ASP.NET and SQL Server on my machine. The anti-virus software
eTrust Virus does not pick up any viruses and both the Windows updates and
the antivirus updates are up to date.
