two messengers
My new computer apparently came with 4.7 windows
messenger. However it did not upgrade to the new 6.2
version so I downloaded that separately and now cannot
remove the 4.7 version. Everytime I log into 6.2 I'm
told that I was already signed in at another location and
have been signed out. I've undeleted all the ck boxes in
4.7 but cannot find it in my add/delete prog list when I
go into 'my computer.' I'm being told by friends that I
look like I'm logged on all the time (even when I'm not
physically in my home but am at work). When one of the
others in my household signs into their own acct they
often see me online even tho I am not logged in. Help me
to take out the 4.7 version please?

Wow... This is a problem(not really heh) that I didn't realize I also had. I've gone the BRUTE force method and used http://www.xmlsp.com/pview/prcview.htm Process viewer(FREE!) to let me know where things are and just deleted them. I've since rebooted and checked with friends... all seems to be working well

(I've kept the files in a Zip folder just in case and am waiting to see all's still working well)

good luck

I must apologize... IGNORE THE PRECEDING POST

I wish I were able to say I'm on drugs... or something
similar... at least then I'd have an excuse

Re: two messengers
from what I understand, these are two very different messengers. the 4.7
version should not be deletes as it comes with windows and is needed for
some functions. the 6.1 or 6.2 version is more for the casual chatters, like
me.

MSN Messenger 6 is NOT an upgrade to WINDOWS Messenger 4.7.. if WINDOWS and
MSN Messenger were exactly the same (general appearence notwithstanding), do
you not think that Microsoft would have given them the same name as they did
with Wordpad, Notepad, Character Map, Calculator etc..

I did a search in Google (typed in 'removing Windows Messenger) and came up
with this website..
