Windows Update Fails KB934238 Error Code 0x80242006
Included below is a cut of the update log failure. I now have 3 systems in
this state and I am sure other users are going to hit this. Does Microsoft
have any idea?
I tried removing the .net 1.0, 2.0SP1, 3.0 SP1 and reinstalling but it didnt
work for me. Is there a hotfix?

thanks in advance
Larry

Are you running a non-English versions of Windows XP and are you seeing
English text in the print dialog box when you print something?

It looks like an issue with the bits job downloading through your proxy.
if you type proxycf.exe what does it say the current configuration is?
Is IE configured for a proxy server?
Do you see any errors in the application event log?

This is an English version. We are in Minneapolis.
We are not using a proxy.

Re: Windows Update Fails KB934238 Error Code 0x80242006

I'm having the same problem with this download and the same error code.
I understand that I don't need it and will turn it off because I do have an
english version of XP media center.
However normally I never have any problems with Windows update, yet on this
one myself and several others are seeing the same issue regardless of whether
we use Custom or automatic.

This indicates to me that there is a BUG in this download the Microsoft
should investagate and fix.
If it is being offered in Critical updates then it should no fail regardless
of which version of XP is intalled including English versions. This download
should be able to determine which version is installed and not offer it as a
download at all if the English version of XP is installed.

After all isn't that what the Search on the update site supposed to do, only
offer downloads that our specific computer needs?

You'll get no argument from me, my friend.

I have the same issue - It seems that if as many people as I see posting on
several sites say the same thing Microsoft has a
gltch and should update this download. if it requires input as to what
language it pertains it should ask

Re: Windows Update Fails KB934238 Error Code 0x80242006
Update - Windows XP (KB934238) Failed Error Code: 0x80242006

Symptoms the same as mentioned previously. The system is a clean install on
a Windows XP SP2 + current to date installs of all other system & security
updates. Office 2003, Visual Basic .Net/C#/WebDev/ .Net thru .20.
All English language installation and no proxy between here and there. The
system is set for Automatic Updates and WLOC 2.0 is being a nag about it.
If this is a high priority update then burying it in hidden updates doesn't
seem to me to be a professional response.
The Microsoft Update site doesn't appear to agree with the head in the sand
view either.

" Important

You've hidden important updates
You've asked us not to show you one or more high-priority updates but your
computer might be at risk until they are installed. Restore them now "
