FBA crashing on first boot
I'm testing XPE on a laptop to initially get my head around how it works before i deploy it on my target device.

I've just finished building my XPE image, I've moved it to my new partition and rebooted the selected XPE to boot.

FBA starts and I can see it telling me that it's installing new components, then the PC reboots and I'm back to the initial boot screen asking me to choose between XP and XPE.

Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong. I'm guessing I've missed something out in the Image creation process.

Any thoughts or advice would be very appreciated.

Cheers
M.

Re: FBA crashing on first boot
I've now created a new image removing some of the components that I did not need.

I'm now getting an error while FBA is installing components:

The instruction at "0x01be1c7c" refferenced memory at "0x000000c". The memory could not be written.

Does anyone have any idea what this is pointing to?

Regards
M.

You can get more info about what's going on during FBA if you check out \windows\fbalog.txt file.

Re: Re: FBA crashing on first boot
Thanks for the info KM!

Ok I've had a look at the FBAlog file and I'm not sure what i'm looking for.

I can see a bunch of invalid path logs like this:
11:46:41 AM - [FBAProcessRegisterDLLs] 242483226 -> Invalid Path: [C:\WINDOWS\FBA\FBANET.DLL]

It keeps looking to my C: drive for it's data, when my XP embedded image is loaded onto my D: drive.

Do i need to set the drive i have XPE installed on to be the active partition??

If so how do i do this without deactivating my XPpro partition??

I've attached a copy of my fbalog.txt file for anyone to have a look at. I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks
M.

Re: FBA crashing on first boot
Most likely you have more than one disk or partitions set up on the target machine storage.
Here is a little bit of info about the error:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/c...d/default.aspx

Here is how you may want to get rid of it the most efficient way:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/c...n/default.aspx

Otherwise just fix all boot paths on the Configuration Settings page in TD.

PS. To see you attachment it is required to have a valid logon account to MCSE which I don't have and not plan to register there :-)
