IE6 uses wrong (old) version of WMP
I am using XP SP2 with WMP v10 installed, but whenever IE6 plays an embedded
into html
movie it uses WMP 6.4.09.1130, which has problems playing some wmv's. I
can't find
anywhere to set what media player IE should be using, or even find where WMP
v6 is installed on my system. Does anyone has a solution?

System is completely up to date with Win Update, and is a pretty recent
install. This problem has happened as long as I can remember. I have tried
uninstalling WMP10 and reinstalling, didn't help. This happens on all
webpages,
not just one. WMP10 is default for all these file types. If i manually type
put the link
to the video into the address bar, it opens WMP10 and plays fine.

What happens if you run:
regsvr32 wmpasf.dll
and
regsvr32 wmpdxm.dll
- does that then fix up the issue?

Now Playing: "5 Left in the Clip [Remix]" by "Weathermen" in WMP10.

Re: IE6 uses wrong (old) version of WMP

Presumably you installed an old software package over the top that
misregistered v6 player components. I've got some code around that tries to
avoid that/fix that up where possible, but presumably you found an old
install package that bypassed that prevention code.
