VPN internet connectivy
Hi All.

I just configured a VPN server on a Win2k3 Machine, and it is working fine under machines plugged in the same LAN.

But when clients try to connect over the internet, just dont work, with the 800 error message.

I read something that I must allow some VPN ports, but where can I do that?
(firewall is off).

Re: VPN internet connectivy
Actually I found that this is the exacly same scenario as mine:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Netw..._21256196.html

"I have done a NETSTAT -NA and port 1723 is listening on 0.0.0.0 - not on 192.168.2.8. I then went into NETSH RAS and did a SHOW ACTIVESERVERS and it sits there, with no response."

"Also, I wanted to add that we can connect via the LAN to the VPN connection, just not through the Internet."

In the end he just says that got if fixed and it was an issue with his testing scenario.

Well, I must fix this too, and have no idea how, can anybody help?

Re: VPN internet connectivy
Error 800 is a very general message that simply indicates the
connection attempt failed. To get a more specific error, set the client to
use PPTP or L2tp (whichever you plan to use) rather than automatic.

Is the server directly connected to the Internet or behind a router?

Re: VPN internet connectivy
When I set the client to PPTP, I got a 678 error Message. Im behind a router. A D-Link ADSL router.

Re: VPN internet connectivy
You cannot access your server from the Internet using its private IP.
You will need to forward tcp port 1723 from your router to the RRAS server
and connect to the router's public IP. If you then get an error 721, your
router is blocking GRE (IP protocol 47). This prevents the encrypted VPN
data from passing through the router.
