Operations Masters
I have a DC (w2k3) at a remote location that I am planning on removing and
replacing with a file server. I have been having problems with the DC that I
believe is from the line speed to my location. Today I wanted to check what
FSMO roles on the server need to be transferred and the below errors were
observed. If the errors are correct is there any thing else that I will need
to do prior to shutting the DC off? And at this point would it be safe in
saying that turning off the server would be ok? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you.

Operations Masters:
RID=Operations master =ERROR, the current operations master is offline. The
role cannot be transferred.
PDC=Operations master =ERROR, the current operations master is offline. The
role cannot be transferred.
Infrastructure=Operations master =ERROR, the current operations master is
offline. The role cannot be transferred.

Re: Operations Masters
You don't mention having another DC and if it has these roles or not.

Re: Operations Masters
I would ensure that the DC's that you will be keeping on line have all the
FSMO roles. Unless you have transferred roles, they would all be on the
first DC you installed.

Worst case, you miss a FSMO role and have to seize it afterwards.

Yes, the FSMO roles are on my other DC.

in which case switch it off and clea up any metadata left behind

Although looking at your errors is the reason your having problems - it
seems there is no communication between the offending DC and the one holding
the roles. Is replication working OK.
