Re: CD and CD-RW suddenly can't read discs.
I have the same problem... There are WAY too many people
with the SAME problem for it to be a hardware issue. It
has to be on the software side. I've been trying to fix
this myself for the last week. No luck here either,
however, its better than it was before.
I can now at least see the contents of my discs via this
registry hack http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;en-us;314060, but the disc voluem label is still
missing, and the discs will not autoplay UNLESS I eject
the disc and then close it again. Then I have a 50/50
chance if it autoplaying, but now I should get the volume
label and the contents.
And just today I see I have another problem... while
testing, I installed a game and it asked for a second
disc, no problem, but the second disc in and it reads...
then after its done, it wants the first one again, no
problem, however, this time my drive disappears! Now the
game can't be completed and I'm back to square one.
Like the others, if I leave the disc or any disc in and
reboot, it sees it fine. And I've also tried safe mode
like other people and it works fine, at least reading and
getting the volume label. I sure hate to re-install, but
knowing my luck, it won't do any good anyway. Hehe
