Laptop boot probs
Hi.
My daughters laptop that has got her uni work on is poorly...please help
It is an ibm think pad pent 3 700mhz 128 memory.

When you turn it on it goes through the boot screen then beeps twice and in
the boot screen everything is ok apart from the last bit which reads
ATAPI CD-ROM : Hitachi
DVD-Rom GD-S200
ERROR
0175 BAD CRCI,
STOP POST TASK

It then just hangs there...after a while the screen goes blank but laptop
keeps running.
Does any one know what this means..If i try to enter bios it hang and if i
pust F12 ( it calls it " SELECT TEMORARY BOOT DRIVE) it also hangs.
Would be most greatful for any help with this.
Thank you
Phill.

It sounds as if your CD drive is failing. Remove it and check
what happens.

Re: Laptop boot probs
HI. Thanks for that , But i have tried that. I do get a different error but
it still hangs at the same place. the error says.

fixed disk 0: IBM-DARA-212000
ERROR

I'm wondering if it is the hard drive failing as it says fixed disc 0.....

Thanks again
Phill

Re: Laptop boot probs
Since you had a smiliar error message with the CD drive in
place, I suspect you have an IDE controller problem. It's
probably time to involve the IBM Helpdesk.
