Me too! Same problem, no solution
Hi Lionel- I have the exact same problem as you, immediately after
upgrading to SP2. I can surf the web, send email, etc using my
Comcast cable internet connection and a Belkin NIC card, but the
connection does not show in Network Connections. Not a big deal
except that I have lost my other home networking connections and I
cannot re-establish these without specifying my internet connection-
which is no longer visible so I have nothing to specify in the network
setup wizard!

Oh, and to make this doubly irritating- I tried to remove the NIC card
and reboot, in plans of reinstalling it so the PC would find it- and
all this did was setoff the Windows Activiation thing, so now I have
to reactivate in 3 days.

If I can't solve the NIC card problem I will just restore my system
from a Ghost backup I made just before updating to SP2, to remedy both
the NIC card and the Activation problems. A little added security is
not worth all this headache!

Re: Me too! Same problem, no solution
Lionel-
I just realized I have the same chipset NIC card as you-- Realtek
RTL8139-810X.
Surely we are not the only ones having this problem, nor would this
have not come up in beta testing... but I cannot find any fixes on the
net.

Re: Me too! Same problem, no solution
I found other people mentioning the same problem in the newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware

And no solution is given... This is ridiculous... I also found out that my
soundcard (onboard AC'97 soundcard WDM) is also missing and is found in the
hidden devices list as a microsoft audio device.... when I tried to update
it with the latest drivers of VIA ... it goes away and no sound... cannot
understand why Microsoft released SP2 with such bugs!

Re: Me too! Same problem, no solution
Guys, maybe it's time to bump it up to Microsoft XP SP2 Support:

Free Microsoft support for SP2 problems - even phone support:
<http://support.microsoft.com/default...doffer80&sd=GN>

Try it, you'll like it. If you find a solution, make sure you post it here.

Re: Me too! Same problem, no solution
I have communicated via chat and email with 2 different Microsoft
support "professional" persons and neither seem to have a clue what I
am talking about. I have explained it as clearly as I can and both of
them think I have a totally different problem. I am going to call
Microsoft when I get a chance...

Maybe it's time to sacrifice a chicken or pig.

Sorry I couldn't help.
