Ok, I have looked up and down the internet, so I think, and in this very
forum. I'm going to try to make this perfectly clear since I've seen this
post before with no clear communication. I have office xp, obviously with
word. I work in a school district who hosts SAT's. The state demands that
we disable spell checker and grammar checking, cutting and pasting and the
thesarus. Is there anyway of doing this through group policy with the office
templates so I can do this globally?

Is there any way?

Use pdfs and Adobe Acrobat rather than Word.

Ok, my original post asked if disabling spelling and grammar checking in word
was possible, including disabling f7 for spell check. Does anyone know if
this can be done.

You can uninstall the proofing tools, which will then change any Office
program and Outlook Express.

You also asked about disabling cut and paste. You can protect documents as
forms, which disables cut and paste except within formfields.

You can mark text to not check spelling. This is a language setting under
the tools menu. This is like bold formatting in that it applies to bits of
text rather than to a document or a Word session.

You can put macros in that intercept spell-checking and other commands. If
you want to explore intercepts take a look at the MVP FAQ
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/macrosvba/interceptsaveprintcontent.htm. What you
are attempting to do is not a small task and unless you are careful, you can
make Word nonfunctional for ordinary uses like writing term papers.

Hi Charles, thanks for the responses. I am just going to assume it's not
that simple. I actually found a response from you from a couple of years ago
about deleteing the dll file for the spell checker, that is about as close to
what I need as I'm gonna get. See I have special ed students who have to
type up their SAT essays on the computer and the collegeboard demands that
spell and grammar check be disabled and also disable cutting and pasting,
although they don't know how to do this either >:-( Anyway, via GPO I can
disable the autocorrecting while they are typing, and delete the spell check
dll file, but they can still run the spell check and find the words they
spelt wrong, it just doesn't tell them how to spell it,but it does let them
know they have misspelled words. Oh well, will have to use notepad instead.
Thanks anyway.

You can turn off the spell-check as you go feature for particular documents
in Word. (Of course, they could turn it back on.)

You need to ask this in the office.setup or word.setup.networking newsgroup(s).
That's where you'll find people familiar with setting system policies and
disabling features.
